If your device keeps restarting or struggling to stay connected to the network while you're abroad, we’ve got a few steps you can follow to get things working smoothly again.
Before You Begin
Let’s make sure we understand what’s happening. Ask yourself the following:
- What type of device are you using? (e.g., iPhone 14, Google Pixel)
- Which country are you currently in?
- Are you able to connect to any local network at all? If it’s unstable, that’s good to note too.
-
Did you activate your Cape service while you were still in the U.S.?
- Service must be activated in the U.S. before international travel.
Settings to Check on Your Device
1. Roaming is Turned On
Roaming needs to be enabled to connect to networks outside the U.S.
To check:
-
Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs → Cape → Roaming
- Make sure the toggle is turned on.
- Make sure the toggle is turned on.
2. VoLTE is Enabled (if available)
VoLTE (Voice over LTE) helps with call quality and connectivity, though it may not be available on all devices.
Note: VoLTE is not present on iOS 18+ and may not appear on some Android models.
To check:
Settings → Network & Internet → Mobile network → Look for and enable the VoLTE option (if shown).
3. Correct APN Settings Are Selected
APN settings help your phone communicate with Cape’s network.
To check:
-
Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs → Cape → Access Point Names → Ensure chesapeake is selected.
4. Manually Select a Local Network
Sometimes your device won’t automatically connect to the best available network. You can switch to manual selection:

Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs → Cape - Turn Switch network toggle OFF
- Then choose a network manually from the list of available options
