Activating Cape on Android
To use Cape, you must activate through the Cape app. The app allows you to:
-
Pay for a Cape subscription.
-
Download and activate your eSIM.
-
Manage your billing and account securely.
Why the Cape App is Required
Cape requires app-based activation to prioritize your security. Unlike other carriers that enable activation via websites, Cape limits access to the app to protect your account from tracking, SIM swaps, and other attacks. This ensures no one can compromise your number without physical access to your phone.
Due to this restriction, activation cannot occur during initial Android setup. Follow these steps after setup is complete:
-
Start the setup process on your Android device.
-
Connect to a Wi-Fi network when prompted.
-
Skip SIM activation during the mobile network setup screen.
-
If prompted with "Download eSIM," do not select this option. Tap Skip instead.
-
If asked to scan a QR code, tap Need help? and then Skip.
-
If asked to activate an eSIM or physical SIM, select physical SIM and skip activation.
-
-
After setup, open the Play Store and download the Cape app to begin activation.
Note: We do not currently support eSIM Transfer.
What is eSIM Transfer?
eSIM transfer allows you to move your existing eSIM profile from one device to another without the need to contact your carrier or scan a QR code. This feature simplifies the process when upgrading to a new phone or switching devices, as the eSIM can be transferred digitally. Currently, Cape requires you to download and activate a new eSIM through the Cape app instead of transferring an existing one.
